fishing at gunflint

2004
gunflint walleye

August 2 With the Walleye moving to cooler water and a mix of weather patterns the last week of fishing has been mainly Lake Trout and Bass.  The bass are continuing to jump into the boats/canoes with the Lake Trout happening early each morning.  The big fish of this report goes to Adam Moore of McKinney, TX with his 12 1/2 pound Lake Trout caught on Saganaga Lake with guide Jon Schei.  Happy eating Adam.

July 20 The Lake Trout have started to move to deeper water and the guides are going after them with jigging spoons.  The bass fishing is totally amazing with a bass nearly every cast.

July 5  Fishing is going great with a few spotty days mixed in due to a couple extreme weather changes.  The walleye and lake trout have started to move down due the water warming up, but it is happening very slow since the lakes are between 10 and 15 degrees cooler this year.  One of our guests was on South Lake catching small mouth bass out of

Walleye release on Saganaga Lake in northern Minnesota one side of the boat and lake trout out of the other side of the boat with the same lure.  The big release for this report goes to Albert Schneider with a 31 1/2" walleye caught on Saganaga Lake with guide Jon Schei. Two nice lake trout

June 19
The lakes have finally turned and settled down.  With that has come the much anticipated early June trout/walleye fishing that has always been great.  The last few weeks have pushed the envelope on releases with between 3 and 4 28" or larger walleye releases each day with our guides.  The big release for this week was Jane Napielaski with her 28 1/2" walleye caught on Saganaga Lake while fishing with our guide Kevin Walsh.

Released Walleye on Saganaga Lake in northern MinnesotaMay 22 The opener went very well and was followed by a great week of fishing.  This week's big release goes to Charlie Safris with his 31" Walleye that he caught while fishing Saganaga with his father and guide Jon.  A few other noteworthy releases were logged from the Pugh family (Jon and Sam) with their 30 1/2" and 28" Walleyes from their day on Saganaga.

May 9  Currently the only fishing being done is for Northern Pike with mixed results.  The Minnesota and Canadian openers happen to fall on the same day this year, so we are expecting a great turnout for opening day.  Best of luck to all the anglers this year!
