We know that pets are important members of the family, and that a vacation away from home can be a lot more fun and relaxing if your pet is not miles away staying in a kennel or with friends. Fortunately, pets are welcome at Gunflint Lodge. We request only a couple of common-sense courtesies, including keeping your dog on a leash when outside, and leaving
them secured in a kennel if they are left in your cabin unattended, and notifying us of any damage to the cabin that may have been unintentionally caused by your pet. The main
reason we ask this is so that our housekeeping staff feel comfortable going into a cabin if there is an unattended dog.
$20 per night per pet charge, except during the Dog Lover's Weekend, when dogs stay free!

If you want to visit Canada at any point during your stay (canoe in the
Quetico Provincial Park, picnic on the opposite shore of Gunflint Lake or fish on the
Canadian side, for example) you will need a remote border crossing permit since you are not reporting to a port of entry. The cost is $30 (Canadian) per family (defined as spouses and dependents). The easiest way to obtain the permit application is online:
http://cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/prog/canpass/rabc-pfre/menu-eng.html. Follow the instructions on this web site, and be sure to allow 4-6 weeks for the application to be processed.
If you prefer, we can mail you a copy of the necessary paperwork.
Fishing plays an important role at Gunflint. Our clear, rocky lakes are the habitat for big walleye and native lake trout. The smallmouth bass fishing is some of the best in the midwest, if you're up to working the back country a bit. Northern pike and pan fish are slower fishing. And whitefish offers fast action for a short time each fall. The fishing season opens May 14 for walleye, lake trout and smallmouth bass. The northern pike season is open all year. Catch and release fishing is popular, but so are freshly caught shore lunches.
You can purchase Minnesota resident or non-resident and Canadian fishing licenses here at Gunflint. We don't sell Canadian fishing Licenses during the winter (sept - apr). Serveral options are available including 1-day, 3-day, 14-day or annual for individuals and families. A trout stamp is also required of anglers possessing trout taken from any lake/stream or while fishing in a designated trout lake in Minnesota.
An 8% service charge is added to all accommodations and packages. These service charges are distributed to the staff at our discretion, often as a bonus, special event or amenity. (Of course, mushers and wait staff always welcome direct expressionsof appreciation. While it is not required, please feel free to tip those who have done something special to make your activity, meal or stay more enjoyable.)
