Breakfasts and lunches are served in the main dining room, the bistro or on the patio (depending on the weather).
We offer two dining choices in the evening--the Red Paddle Bistro and Justine"s Fine Dining. The bistro offers a variety of big hamburgers, salads, appetizers, deli style sandwiches and our featured walleye chowder. Justine's offers 6 entrees each evening, with a different menu each day.
The main lodge and dining room are closed on Christmas Day, although the cabins are open. (for guests on a Dining Plan, meals will be catered to your cabin for Christmas Day)
While open year round, the Justine's does close for a few midweeks in the very late Fall and early Spring. Click here for more information on our dining.
We know that pets are important members of the family, and that a vacation away from home can be a lot more fun and relaxing if your pet is not miles away staying in a kennel or with friends. Fortunately, pets are welcome at Gunflint Lodge. We request only a couple of common-sense courtesies, including keeping your dog on a leash when outside, and leaving
them secured in a kennel if they are left in your cabin unattended, and notifying us of any damage to the cabin that may have been unintentionally caused by your pet. Our housekeeping staff will not come in if your dog is loose in the cabin.
$20 per night per pet charge, except during the Dog Lover's Weekend, when dogs stay free!

If you want to visit Canada at any point during your stay (canoe in the
Quetico Provincial Park, picnic on the opposite shore of Gunflint Lake or fish on the
Canadian side, for example) you will need a remote border crossing permit since you are not reporting to a port of entry. The cost is $30 (Canadian) per family (defined as spouses and dependents). The easiest way to obtain the permit application is online:
http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/forms-formulaires/bsf386-eng.pdf Follow the instructions on this web site, and be sure to allow 4-6 weeks for the application to be processed.
If you prefer, we can mail you a copy of the necessary paperwork.
In addition you will need your passport in your possession if you enter Canada for your day of fishing.
Fishing plays an important role at Gunflint. Our clear, rocky lakes are the habitat for big walleye and native lake trout. The smallmouth bass fishing is some of the best in the midwest, if you're up to working the back country a bit. Northern pike are slower fishing. And whitefish offers fast action for a short time each fall. The fishing season opens in mid May for walleye, lake trout and smallmouth bass. The northern pike season is open all year. Catch and release fishing is popular, but so are freshly caught shore lunches.
You can purchase Minnesota resident or non-resident licenses at our front desk. Several options are available including 1-day, 3-day, 14-day or annual for individuals and families. A trout stamp is also required of anglers possessing trout taken from any lake/stream or while fishing in a designated trout lake in Minnesota.
Canadian fishing licenses are now sold on line at: http://outdoorscard.mnr.gov.on.ca/english/oc_initial.asp,
or at: google/bing-the MNR Store
You can purchase both your license and your outdoor card on line and print out your licenses immediately. This is easy to do before you leave home.
If you choose to buy a Canadian license while you are with us, we will go on line and make the purchase for you.
