The main fishing season opens May 12 for walleye, smallmouth bass and lake trout. The northern pike season is open year around. It is fun to get out right at the beginning of the season when spring is bursting out in the forest with the fresh smells, new leaves, migrating birds, and the calling loons telling us they are back for the summer.
The walleye have just finished spawning and are starting to school up in the warm bays, the smallmouth bass are near the surface (pre-spawning here in the northwoods) and the lake trout are along the rocky shores in shallow water (the lake trout season will be open in Minnesota only as the Canadian season does not open until early June). Northern pike are in their usual haunts in the weedy bays and around the rivers. In addition to good sized walleye, it is worth noting that Gunflint is a native lake trout lake and most of them are running 3 to 10#.
Includes: Accommodations, bistro dinners, boat, motor, gas, canoe, fish filleting and freezing.
