This annual event raises money for breast cancer. Dog mushers solicit sponsors for their teams as they participate in a 20 mile dog sled race from Gunflint Lake to Poplar Lake. Many mushers wear goofy costumes to liven up the race and make it more unusual.
Saturday morning all guests are invited to join the mushers and their dogs as they get organized for the race. It all starts just east of the lodge at Gunflint Pines on the lake at their waterfront. After you have checked that all out, you are welcome to return to our lodge for a cup of something warm while you wait for the start of the race. The course goes right by the front of the lodge so you can sit inside and watch all the action. Then, if you are interested, you are welcome to drive down to Trail Center (about a 20 minute drive) and watch as the teams make it to the finish line. We will be contributing $20.00 per person on this package for the musher we will be supporting. Guests are also invited to help sponsor a musher if they are so inclined.
