We offer three basic types of accommodations: Classic Cabins, Gunflint Lake Homes, and Romantic Cottages, plus the Pow Wow Lodge and our Canoer Cabins. Our approach to setting our cabin prices is somewhat different than other resorts in that we include many of your vacation activities in our base rate.
The Classic Cabins, Lake Homes and Romantic Cottages all have a rock fireplace and many have a private sauna and hot tub. Nearly all have a complete kitchen, and many have a washer and dryer. Your firewood is stacked up in your entry way and your first fire is laid waiting for your match. All linens and bedding is provided with oversized towels, etc. Each cabin has either a charcoal or gas grill outside. Our cabins vary in size from one to four bedrooms and nearly all have a full bathroom for each bedroom. Housekeepers stop by every day to change your towels and to check on any needs you might have. They also check the firewood supply.
The Pow Wow Lodge is a unique rental, with five bedrooms, three baths, a huge living room with a rock fireplace, game room, gourmet kitchen, garage, active TV, wireless internet, three season BBQ porch, rock garden with picnic table, and a lake side sitting porch.
The rustic canoer cabins (built in 2012) have one room with a twin over a double, plus a set of bunk beds. They have a refrigerator, microwave, modest heat, an overhead fan, screened in porch and an outside BBQ area. The cabins are about 100' from the bath rooms. These are seasonal cabins, open from early May to mid October. Everything else is open year-around.
All our naturalist activities are included. In the summer two naturalist/guides lead 30+ activities each week that range from nature hikes, to short canoe trips, to animal searches in the evening, to kids fishing fun, to wolf howling, etc. We have a 20' Voyageur Canoe for some fun group paddles with one of our guides. In the winter we have one naturalist and he offers activities 5 days a week (Tue thru Sat). Winter activities include cross country ski trips, snowshoeing, wolf howling, candle making, dream catchers, and native American lore. All these activities vary by the week and season depending on what is happening in the forest.
Canoes and kayaks are included anytime you wish to use them. During the swimming season we also have tubes for the kids. We have several scenic hiking trails that lead right out of our back yard to take you to Lonely Lake, the scenic overlook or the high cliffs--these are all hiking trails we maintain for our guests. All fish filleting and freezing is included without charge. Winter packages include cross country skis and snowshoes.
At the main lodge you are always welcome to free coffee, tea or hot chocolate anytime you wish. In addition we try to keep a full jar of home baked cookies for you. The lodge also has free wi- fi if you just have to check in with the big world, however we have limited band width, as the only connection we can get at the moment is through a satellite. That means we can run out of service if folks go skyping, or download videos.
In the entry way of the lodge there are two big bins of corn and sunflower seeds--guests are expected to feed the ducks in the summer and keep their cabin bird feeders filled. In the winter months guests feed corn to the deer. The lodge has a decent inventory of DVDs and CDs and they are all free to use.
