Our approach in setting our cabin prices is somewhat different than other resorts. We include many of your vacation activities in our base rate, making it more all-inclusive.
The Classic Cabins, Lake Homes and Romantic Cottages all have a stone fireplace and many have a private sauna, hot tub and washer/dryer. Nearly all have a full kitchen as well. Your firewood is stacked in your entry way, and your first fire is laid out waiting for you. All linens and bedding are provided, including oversized towels. Each cabin has either a charcoal or gas grill outside.
Our cabins vary in size from one to four bedrooms and nearly all have a full bathroom for each bedroom. Housekeepers stop by each day to change your towels and check on any needs you might have, including the firewood supply.
The Pow Wow Lodge is a unique rental with five bedrooms, three baths, a huge living room with a stone fireplace, game room, well-stocked kitchen, garage, active TV, wireless internet, three-season BBQ porch, rock garden with picnic table, and a lake side sitting porch. It's perfect for a large family or group coming up together. It can fit up to 10 people comfortably .
The rustic canoer cabins (built in 2012) have one room with a twin over a double, plus a set of bunk beds. They have a refrigerator, microwave, radiant three season heat, an overhead fan, screened-in porch and outside BBQ area. The cabins are a short walk from the bathrooms. These are seasonal cabins, open from early May to mid-October. (Everything else is open year-around.)
NATURALIST ACTIVITIES . All our naturalist activities are included. In the summer our two naturalist/guides lead more than 30 activities each week. They range from nature hikes, to short canoe trips, to animal searches in the evening, to kids ' fishing fun, to wolf howling, and more. We have a 20-foot Voyageur Canoe for some fun group paddles with one of our guides.
In the winter we have one naturalist on staff who offers activities five days a week (Tuesday-Saturday). Winter activities include cross country ski trips, snowshoeing, wolf howling, candle making, dream catchers and native American lore.
All these activities vary by the week and season depending on what's happening in the forest.
Canoes and kayaks are included, and available for your use at anytime during your stay. During the swimming season we also have tubes for the kids. All fish filleting and freezing is included without charge.
HIKING, SKIING AND SNOWSHOEING. We have several scenic hiking trails that lead right out our back yard to take you to Lonely Lake and scenic overlooks along the high cliffs. We maintain these trails for our guests. Winter packages include cross country skis and snowshoes.
At the main lodge you are always welcome to free coffee, tea or hot chocolate. In addition we try to keep a full jar of home-baked cookies waiting for you. We have a decent inventory of DVDs and CDs and they are all free for you to use.
The lodge has free wi-fi if you just have to check in with the big world. However we have limited bandwidth, since the only connection we can get at the moment is via satellite. That means we can quickly run out of service if folks are skyping, or downloading videos.
FEEDING THE CRITTERS. In the entryway of the lodge are two big bins of corn and sunflower seeds. Our local population of ducks and birds in the summer, and birds and deer in the winter have come to expect the guests to feed them! The ducks are down by the lake, of course. There are bird feeders at the cabins, and the deer will often peek right in your window if you've forgotten to supply their corn next to your cabin.
