Winter Solstice marks the longest night of the year and the beginning of winter – one of our favorite seasons here in the Northwoods. Celebrate the season with a toast to the night skies and a celebration of warmth and light inside the Lodge.
We’ll start the celebration Wednesday with a Naturalist interpretation of the night skies and celestial legends. We’ll then end the shortest day of the year on Thursday with a night hike. This year Winter Solstice week coincides with the New Moon, so you will likely see the Milky Way and more stars than you could ever imagine. Perhaps you’ll even spot the Northern Lights above beautiful Gunflint Lake. After your hike, warm up with a hot meal in the Lodge, then end the evening with traditional Celtic music (and perhaps a Christmas carol or two).
Throughout your stay, you will be surrounded by one of the most scenic and pristine wilderness areas in the country, yet you’ll be properly pampered, too. You’ll stay in a comfortable cabin with a fireplace (some with a sauna or a hot tub). Treat yourself to a visit to our on-site massage therapist.
All your meals are included from check-in Tuesday night through Friday breakfast. Our dining room has a beautiful view of the lake and a full menu to choose from, including an expansive wine list and some seasonal cocktails.
There are several hiking trails right out our backdoor, including some gorgeous scenic overlooks. There are also many guided Naturalist activities to choose from. You’ll have full access to our cross country skis and snowshoes, or bring your own and use our trails.
